Kitano Tenmangu + Kyoto Day 2

So after Kinkaku-ji in the morning, we headed over to Kitano Tenmangu which is a really big temple. The main reason we went there is because they happened to have a flea market on one of the days that we were in Kyoto (march 25th)! I bought a really cool little planter pot and an old brass barrette. Gramma bought a vintage kimono for around $10!!

After Kitano Tenmangu, we headed down the block to the “Tofu Cafe Fujino”. Kyoto is famous for their tofu so i figured we had better have some while we were there!! We ordered one of each of the sets and then each ate a third, switched plates, ate another third, switched again, and ate the last third. So we all got to try everything. Needless to say, it was DELICIOUS!!!

With our bellies full we moved on to the Nishijin Textile Center. It was crammed full of every kind of textile product you could think of! They also offered weaving classes and you could try on a kimono if you wanted! We shopped til we dropped and hung around for their “Kimono Fashion Show” which was sort of unimpressive in my opinion but interesting nonetheless….

We had planned to go to Nijo Castle afterwards, but ran out of time! So we took a bus towards Teramachi Dori which i heard had a lot of great little antique shops. Most of them were already closed up, but we found a few interesting (and expensive) things to look at. Gramma even found a doll to buy for her collection!! We were just about starving to death and wandered down the arcades near Kawaramachi Dori looking for somewhere to eat. We finally happened on a little cafe with a mostly english menu out front!! Wooohoooo!!!! The food was absolutely delicious.. I wish i would have taken more photos of it. ;-)
